Velaric ingressives

Lately Spencer has been making clicks (velaric ingressives), which is really cute. Here is a short video of him doing it. We are encouraging him by making some clicking noises ourselves. These are not the best exemplars he has made, but they are the ones that I have captured on video.

Dwight and Patti got Spencer a really cute outfit for Christmas. I am not sure if they did this on purpose, but it happens to be something very similar to what I frequently wear – corduroys and a plaid shirt. Actually, before Spencer came along, I tended to wear slacks and dress shirts, but those don’t see much use these days, since they don’t resist stains as much as cords and flannel. Bearable

Paul and April got Spencer some really cute clothes for Christmas, including a sweatshirt that is bear-like. It is super fuzzy and has a hood with little bear ears. It just happens to fit perfectly right now, and the hood fits great too, which is hard to find. Some of Spencer’s clothes with hoods tend to either not cover his ears very well, or block his view. Spencer the bear and I have been enjoying quite a few walks lately.

Laundry

About a week ago I was stuffing Spencer’s bum genius diapers after just having washed them while he played in the living room. It wasn’t long before he decided he needed to help. His way of helping is pulling the diapers out of the basket. In general, he likes to increase entropy.

Sometimes Spencer is actually helpful. He likes not only laundry baskets, but also the washer and dryer. I frequently take him downstairs with me to do the laundry, and he enjoys pulling the clothes out of the washer or dryer and putting them in the basket. (Some of them actually make it into the basket). He especially likes to see the washer and dryer spin, and will say “ooh”. He is most certainly right. The washer and dryer are incredible machines. I am so grateful that I do not have to beat my laundry against a rock in the river.

Unpacking

What does one do with blocks in a box? Unpack them!

Lately I have discovered that not only does Spencer like to knock down blocks, he also likes to keep them in general disarray. If I pack the blocks into a big flat rectangle, Spencer will spread them all around. Or if I put them in a box, Spencer will take them all out. If anyone is looking for more disorder in their living room, Spencer is your man!

Destruction

Grandma and Grandpa Felty got Spencer a very nice block set for Christmas. They actually sent it to us in September or so, but we waited until we got home from Christmas vacation to bring them out. Spencer quickly took a liking to the destruction game, in which an adult builds a tower, and then he knocks it down. As you can see from this video, most towers do not stay upright for very long.

As Great Grandma Dibble was about to go to bed on Christmas, she was tempted by the cuteness of Spencer, and ended up playing with him for several minutes before she actually got off to bed. Clare mentioned that this was not really a fair fight. Here are some video highlights of the encounter.
